The location is on the northern edge of the Eifel at an altitude of 310 meters above sea level. The view extends in a northerly direction over the south-eastern tip of the Lower Rhine Bay, the Zülpicher Börde.
In addition to the high soil fertility, which owes it to the loess, which was raised in the last ice age, the Börde also has a favorable climate for agriculture. Thus, it is not surprising that the view above all rests on a landscape shaped by agriculture.
Under the Börden landscape are also large brown coal deposits, which are obtained in 3 large opencast mining for power generation. The steam clouds of the power plant towers visible in the background indicate this.
The open-air museum invites you to visit. Old half-timbered houses, complete farms and a windmill take visitors back to the 19th century. You can watch craftsmen and farmers at work.
