The ruins of the ancient city of Sepphoris lie on the ridge of a hill. The area was placed under protection in 1992/3 and is administered by the Israeli National Parks Authority.
The residents who lived here were relocated to the surrounding areas.
The settlement probably originated in the 1st century. BC and a Roman provincial town developed here, which always had a large proportion of Jewish residents.
A lot of Israeli school classes are always on the move here.
