The Sanctuary of the Madonna della Betulla is located in the municipality of Melle and dates back to the Middle Ages: the Madonna appeared in this place among the branches of the birch trees that characterize the surrounding wood.

It can be reached with an easy walk from the hamlet of Sant'Eusebio di Melle.
Source wikipedia: The sanctuary is of medieval origin, and probably dates back to the 12th century. The name derives from the miraculous appearance of the Virgin Mary among the branches of a birch tree. Our Lady appeared to a child who, at the time of the barbarian invasions, was fleeing after his parents had been killed. The exhausted child fell asleep in the place where the sanctuary stands today; upon awakening the Madonna appeared to him who consoled him, placed him in a sort of cradle carved into the rock (of which traces would still remain) and finally recommended him to pray often and to continue to be good

Small nineteenth-century sanctuary, in a beautiful panoramic position over Melle and the Varaita valley. Water point. The front porch offers good shelter against the rain. Easily accessible both from San Bernardo delle Sottole and from the Ponte di Valcurta road, practically all on a dirt road (from San Bernardo it is possible to take a stretch of path that passes through an ancient abandoned village, even easier than the road). Excellent destination for a family outing.
