The Würzburger- or Galgentor is one of 5 drivable gates into the city. The name Galgentor comes from the fact that it used to be the place of execution with the gallows in front of the gate, on the so-called Köpfleinswieslein. It is the highest point of the Rothenburg city fortifications. The Galgentorturm was built around 1388.

The Galgentor, also known as the Würzburger Tor, was built in 1388 and is one of the five gates of the city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber that can be driven through. The name Galgentor goes back to the time when the city's place of execution with the gallows was located in front of the gate on what was then Köpfleinswieslein. The Galgenturm was also the highest point of the city fortifications - the defensive wall in the east of Rothenburg. Apart from the Galgentor, only the inner gate tower and the outwork have been preserved, which previously served to secure the drawbridge and the Zwinger.

The Galgentor was built in 1388. It is located at the highest point in the city at 438 m above sea level. Named after the gallows that used to be located in the immediate vicinity and stood here as a symbol of the legal sovereignty of a free imperial city until the beginning of the 19th century, when the city was incorporated into Bavaria.
