This ten-meter-high sandstone column forms the northern terminus of the surveying system of Wilhelm Gotthelf Lohrmann and is popularly known as" Butterstampe. The ten-meter-high sandstone column was erected in 1828 on the initiative of Wilhelm Gotthelf Lohrmann (1796–1840). Lohrmann worked for the Royal Saxon Surveying Institute, operated an observatory, and drew a map of the moon. In 1827, he became Chief Inspector of the Mathematical-Physical Salon, and a year later, he was appointed director of the newly founded Technical Educational Institute in Dresden.
