The "Große Kuhle" is located between the central and west peat canal and is a huge forest-free area covered with reeds, in which peat was previously mined. On the southern edge is the lookout tower, from which you can see across the “Große Kuhle” to the Karniner bridge.

If you hike through the Anklamer Stadtbruch, you should definitely have very good shoes, long clothes and hiking sticks or similar to make your way through the reeds. The "path" can sometimes only be guessed at as such, it is extremely overgrown! Even in dry summer weather, sturdy shoes are necessary, as you can always bag something. The exit to Rosenhäger Damm is always a bit under water, rubber boots are highly recommended here. You can also meet wild boars here... The bridges over the peat canals are very good!

The whole route is unique, you come very far out into the reed desert and are right in the middle of it. Most of the time you can't see far because you can't see over the reeds. The observation tower is great for that. There is also a dry place to rest here.
