The Uferstudios site initially served as a transport depot when the Great Berlin Horse-drawn Railway was founded in 1873. When the electric tram service replaced the horse-drawn tram between 1896 and 1902, the Uferstudios were converted into a tram depot. The characteristic clinker brick buildings were built between 1926 and 1931 according to plans by the architect Jean Krämer, combining the clear forms of New Objectivity with expressive motifs. After World War II, the Berlin Transport Company (BVG) used the workshops on both sides of Uferstrasse to repair its buses and sold them to the private Uferhallen Immobilien AG in 2007/2008. In 2008, Uferstudios GmbH rented the buildings on the former Panke Island for 25 years. The conversion followed in 2010, based on designs by Anderhalten Architekten, financed by the Deutsche Klassenlotterie Berlin Foundation and implemented by Jahn Architekten.
