                              The Sachsenbrücke over the Elster flood bed connects the eastern and western parts of the Clara-Zetkin-Park (formerly König-Albert-Park) in Leipzig. Located southwest of the city center, it also provides a car-free connection for pedestrians and cyclists from the center to the west of Leipzig with Anton-Bruckner-Allee. According to the data from the 2021/22 traffic count, the Sachsenbrücke has the highest traffic volume for bicycle traffic in Leipzig with over 15,000 cyclists a day.

                              The bridge was named in memory of the Saxon troops of Napoleon Bonaparte switching sides to the allies during the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig in 1813. However, this name did not become official until November 7, 1901.[2]

                              The first structure on the same site was built in 1897 for the Saxon-Thuringian Industrial and Trade Exhibition. The bridge in its current form was built in 1928 after the Elster flood bed was widened.[3]

                              Today, the cultural monument[4] is a popular meeting place, especially for young Leipzig residents, and attracts musicians and artists, especially in summer.[5] During the expiring Corona lockdown in June 2021, the bridge hit the media headlines as a party and crime hotspot after more than 1,000 people gathered here several times over the weekend to celebrate.
