A very beautiful little town, both in summer and winter. Beautiful half-timbered houses, narrow streets, the opportunity to take a boat trip on the Moselle, and hike to the castle ruins. There's no chance of getting bored here.

Sightseeing features:

Towered over by the ruins of Landshut Castle, the town invites you to stroll through its rich history. The old town of Bernkastel is perhaps the most magnificent half-timbered ensemble in the region. The highlight here is the medieval market square with the picturesque Michaelsbrunnen and the Renaissance town hall from 1608. The "Spitzhäuschen" on the market square in particular attracts a great deal of attention with its unusual design. Since 1416 it seems to have been balancing on a base that is far too small.

On the shore, on the banks of the Moselle, is the mighty parish church of St. Michael, whose church tower used to serve as a watchtower for the fortified town. The local history museum is located in the Graacher Tor in the old town. In addition, the old town is adorned with four different fountains. In addition to the Michaelsbrunnen on the market square, there is the Bärenbrunnen, dedicated to the city's heraldic animal, the Karlsbaderbrunnen on the Karlsbader Platz of the same name and finally the Doctorbrunnen, which depicts the famous legend of the Bernkasteler Doctorwein.

But there is also a lot to see and discover on the other side of the Moselle, in Kues. The city's namesake, Nikolaus Cusanus, the famous scholar and cardinal, was born here. His foundation, the 500-year-old St. Nicholas Hospital, includes i.a. a Gothic chapel. Along with the house where Cusanus was born, it is a landmark of the city.
