Grass snakes can be seen before or after bathing time, especially in the shore area. Sometimes the eastern shore path is a bit crowded on weekends when the weather is nice. The parking spaces in the immediate vicinity are quickly occupied when the weather is bathing, so you could easily get there by bike.

The Bötzsee is a four-kilometer-long and 400-meter-wide lake that stretches between the towns of Altlandsberg and Strausberg in the Märkisch-Oderland district of Brandenburg. It is part of the Strausberger and Blumenthaler forest and lake area and is in the immediate vicinity of numerous other lakes, such as the catcher and Straus lakes.

The southwestern bank of the Bötzsee belongs to the Eggersdorf district of the Petershagen / Eggersdorf community. Here you will find - somewhat hidden, accessible via the Tulpenstrasse junction on Altlandsberger Chaussee - a lido guarded in summer, a rowing boat rental and the hotel and café-restaurant "Seeschloss", built in 1906. On April 18, 2014, the electric ship "Sunny Manuela" with a capacity of 120 people began to operate on the Bötzsee. The main pier is in front of the “Seeschloss” hotel next to the municipal boat rental.

On the somewhat steeper eastern shore of the lake lies the “Postbruch” recreation, bungalow and residential area belonging to the city of Strausberg. The “Postbruchhütte” restaurant, built in 1910, was closed in 2005 and converted into a residential building. At the northern end of the Bötzsee are the historic excursion restaurants "Alte Spitzmühle" and "Neue Spitzmühle", which used to be very popular. Both restaurants have been closed since 2011 and 2014 respectively. From here, the next lake, the Fängersee, can be reached after only about 400 meters.

The entire Bötzsee is almost completely surrounded by forest. On its banks there are stocks of protected plants such as the wood anemone. There are countless small, "wild" bathing areas on all sides. It takes about two hours to walk around the Bötzsee on a freely accessible riverside path.
