Contemporary witness to a river's history
The Emscherquellhof is located in Holzwickede: On the grounds of the half-timbered farm complex - formerly the Lünschermannhof - is the "source pond" of the Emscher. In reality, however, the Emscher rises in the Hixterwald, a few hundred meters southwest of the farm. Here, Emscher water flows together from a total of five springs. Surveyors of the Prussian king had created the original cadastre in 1824 and incorrectly designated the Lünschermannhof as the source area of the Emscher. See: eglv.de/emscher/emscher-hoefe
