The "Emscher" springs from the "Emscherquellhof". This was formerly used as a dirty water channel for the Ruhr area. The renaturation has now become a highlight. Here at the source is especially for the bike riders the beginning of the Emscher bike path. On the way to the Ruhr area are still beautiful moments to expect.

The homestead, built in 1801, consists of the main building, a converted stable building and a detached former bakery. In the inner courtyard of the half-timbered property lies the headwaters of the Emscher in an enclosed pond. The inlet to the spring pond is underground from the direction of the main building.

Until 2003, the farm was privately owned and operated as a riding stable. In 2004, the Quellhof became the property of the Emschergenossenschaft in Essen. By the end of 2005, the restoration and conversion of the building to its original state was carried out at a cost of several million euros according to the principles of monument preservation.

The buildings are used as a training center, meeting and training center and for exhibitions on the water management and industrial history development of the Emscher river.

The start of the Emscherweg is provided with this beautiful half-timbered house. From here the Emscher flows into the Rhine as far as Dinslaken.
