At the foot of the tower you will find a listening boulder. This boulder is part of the Liberation Route, the path that the Allies walked in World War II during the liberation of Europe. A modern, 9-meter-high observation tower has been built on the Mescherhei, a site with a rich archaeological history. The tower not only offers panoramic views of the landscape but also tells the story of the place – from prehistoric reindeer hunters to the current use of the land. In collaboration with local businesses, an interactive orchard has been created with ancient fruit varieties, uniquely combining nature, history, and education.

A landmark was built on the Mescherhei in November 2013 in the form of a modern lookout tower. Exactly where the border of the former two municipalities once ran: Eijsden and Margraten. On the tower you can find information about the current landscape and that from the distant past. The watchtower stands in the middle of an environment where many valuable archaeological, and even unique for the Netherlands, finds have been made.

The place that was already used as a vantage point by reindeer hunters in prehistoric times is given its function. In this way we become aware of the landscape in which we are moving. The tower is nine meters high and gives a beautiful panoramic view.
