DENIS CHAPEL on the VOERENBERG
The semi-circular niche building faces south. It was placed there by Cornelis August Denis, mayor around 1814 to atone for a serious mistake, for which he was imprisoned and removed from office.
It is said that in those days two toll officials got into a fight on the spot and killed each other.
The Denis Chapel is owned by the Municipality of Voeren and was rebuilt after 1957 about 30 meters from its original location. In 2018, the chapel was restored by the Association of Chapels and Crosses of Gravenvoeren.
