The lower valley of the Langballigau can be hiked through on a 4-5 km long hike between Westerholz and Langballigau. The paths are mostly in the shade under beeches, partly on wooden planks. The river shows itself only at the bridges. On both sides are sweeping moraine slopes.

If you get off your bike, walk around the church and go down the stairs to the beach, you come to a wonderful little natural beach with a few surprises!

The marina and fishing port is charming. At the same time there are many restaurants. A jetty with the Ferodora II provides border traffic to Sonderborg.

The valley of the Langballigau is one of the most scenic creek valleys on the Schleswig-Holstein Baltic Sea coast. The valley, cut deep into a ground moraine, with its near-natural hillside deciduous forests and wet biotopes as well as its meandering stream, is home to a unique flora and fauna. With a size of 124 ha, it was therefore declared a nature reserve in 1990.
