Of the few Danish fortress buildings that still exist, the Provianthaus from 1705 is the most outstanding building. An older Provianthaus is mentioned as early as 1649. The first Provianthaus was torn down when the castle was demolished. Neither was built to be stable. While a castle was unnecessary, a Provianthaus was essential for a fortress. The new building was commissioned by King Frederick IV. His name can still be seen on the north side.
