The Stendal Gate in Gardelegen was built in the 16th century as part of the city's fortifications and originally resembled the Salzwedel Gate. In the 1920s, the gate tower was demolished during road widening, so today only the remains of a bastion remain.

St. Nicholas Church in Gardelegen was built around 1200 as a Romanesque brick basilica with a western steeple, probably on the site of an earlier wooden mission church from the Carolingian period. It was commissioned by Henry of Gardelegen, who resided in the nearby castle from 1186 to 1192. Over the centuries, the church underwent several alterations, including Gothic extensions around 1300 and additions in the early 16th century. During World War II, the church was severely damaged in a US air raid on March 15, 1945. Reconstruction was only partial, so today only the choir, the tower, and the surrounding walls remain. The church has not been used for worship since 1977, but remains an important historical landmark in Gardelegen.
