The freight station on the Glauchau–Wurzen railway line was officially registered as the America railway station when it opened in 1876. Regular traffic on the railway line was stopped after the floods in 2002.

The founder of America in Penig is the entrepreneur Heinrich Börner (born 1787 in Erlangen / died 1870 in Penig). He operated on the market square A calico printing company in Penig and acquired it from the count on March 15, 1836 Schönburg owned a piece of land in a Zwickau forest area Trough. On March 31, 1836 he began building his factory, a cotton mill and gave it the name “America”.
