The Anna ferry awaits you for a crossing across the Zschopau River for adults, children, and bicycles during the season from April to October. The ferry has a tradition dating back to the mid-19th century. Numerous legends and stories are associated with it. The ferryman will be happy to tell you more during the crossing. The ferry connects the popular hiking trails on the left bank of the Zschopau River (near the Wasserschänke) with the legendary and famous Bruhmsteig trail. Sachsenburg Castle rises near Frankenberg/Sa. on a rock above the Zschopau. The castle complex, which was built in the early 13th century at the latest, was converted into a palace in the 1480s. The complex is one of the few examples of a completely preserved late Gothic residential palace in Saxony. 19th/20th century Edit After it was given up as an administrative headquarters (1864), a phase of varied uses began. From 1864 onwards, the castle was used as a detention centre for young female prisoners and in 1867 a penal and correctional facility was set up here. The property remained reserved for prisoners only until 1926, although from 1914 onwards these were prisoners of war (Russians, including interned academics and students from the Freiberg Mining Academy, Englishmen, Serbs).
