今日まで残る市壁の北門は、1299年から1354年の間に建設された、ネッテ川沿いにあるブリュッケントールです。ネッテ川の渡河を確保し、主にコブレンツ方面からの市の入り口として機能していたため、「コブレンツァー・トーア」という名前でも知られています。跳ね橋用の壁の切り欠きの痕跡がないことから、門の安全確保のためにネッテ川の橋脚への跳ね橋が利用されていたと推測されています。1598年の洪水により、ブリュッケントールは前門とともに崩壊しました。しかし、1599年の刻印は、わずか1年後にブリュッケントールが再建されたことを物語っています。19世紀初頭から1855年まで、ブリュッケントールは刑務所として使用されていました。1911年に設置された市の紋章は今日まで見ることができます。出典: Jonas Breithaupt, Universität Koblenz-Landau, 2015

The name **“AltenerTempelchen”** can be traced back to a historical field name. In the field name register, it is recorded as *“AltenerTempelchen”* (dialectally *Aldena Tämbelche*) and originally referred to the small lookout hut on the sunny side of Alten above the Nette valley. The hut owes its popular nickname to its characteristic, temple-like roof construction.

The Brückentor (Bridge Gate) is one of Mayen's few remaining medieval city gates and once served as the most important entrance for travelers coming from Koblenz. Today, this historic building houses the Mayen Carnival Museum, which brings the city's long tradition of "Faasenaacht" (Carnival Night) to life.

The tunnel was part of the Maifeld Railway, a branch line of the Eifelquerbahn (Eifel Cross Railway), which was closed in the 1980s. Today, the tunnel is integrated into the Maifeld Cycle Path, which runs along former railway lines in the Maifeld region. The tunnel is paved and illuminated, making it attractive for both cyclists and hikers.
