Mr. Robert Retzmann worked in a quarry while in Russian captivity and became seriously ill. He vowed that upon his return home, he would erect a wayside shrine in honor of Saint Jude Thaddeus. This apostle is often implored for help in desperate situations. Robert Retzmann was one of the last prisoners of war to return home. He then erected this wayside shrine himself.
