Angers Castle is located on the Maine River, near the confluence of the Maine and Loire. Angers is today the capital of the Maine-et-Loire department in the Pays de la Loire region; it was the ancient capital of Anjou.

The Angers fortress impresses with its ramparts and towers made of schist and limestone. The Château d'Angers, also called the Château des Ducs d'Anjou, dominates the Maine on its rocky promontory. Built in the 13th century under the orders of Louis IX, it was transformed into a stately residence by the Dukes of Anjou in the 15th century. The castle, its 17 defensive towers and its moat transformed into gardens can be visited all year round.

From here you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Château de l'Isle Briand, an 18th century castle surrounded by a magnificent park.
