The Château d'Angers, also called the Château des Ducs d'Anjou, dominates the Maine on its rocky promontory. Built in the 13th century under the orders of Louis IX, it was transformed into a stately residence by the Dukes of Anjou in the 15th century. The castle, its 17 defensive towers and its moat transformed into gardens can be visited all year round.

The great citadel is protected by 17 towers joined by mighty ramparts. The walls extend for almost 500 meters.

The castle houses the tapestry of the Apocalypse. A 103-meter-long tapestry, which is an important work of art of the Middle Ages because of its manufacture, its size and its age.

Opening hours:
2nd January to 30th April from 10am to 5.30pm.
May 2 to September 4 from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm.
5th September to 31st December from 10am to 5.30pm.
