The Ramsvikslandet nature reserve is a beautiful area known for its rocky landscape and impressive traces of the glacial ice sheet. It offers a variety of activities for hikers, climbers, and nature lovers. The island is connected to the mainland by a bridge and lies 10 km north of Smögen. The region is known for its breathtaking scenery and the opportunity to experience the beauty of nature up close.

This hike takes you directly into the "Realm of Rocks" on the west side of Ramsvikslandet. Between Grosshamn and Tångevik, you'll walk across extensive slabs of red Bohus granite, smoothed by the inland ice sheet. Here, the sea is ever-present, and in windy weather, the waves crash dramatically against the shore. The landscape is interspersed with heathland and damp hollows where plants like sea lavender and the rare meadow gentian thrive. Keep in mind that the rocks can be slippery when wet, so walk carefully. At the top near Tångevik, there's a lovely swimming spot that makes for the perfect end to the hike in good weather.

Very big and beautiful watefall, at the border between Sweden and Norway. There is a small parking nearby (4, 5 cars max), which is above the waterfall. There is a sign going in the forest, and in 5min we reach the water. Many viewpoints from here. Then you can cross the bridge with the 2 country flags, and go down the path along the waterfall. Also many viewpoints from there. There is another bridge at the bottom, and it's possible to go back easily to the parking, without having to climb back next to the waterfall.

The Elgåfossen separates Sweden & Norway, the bridge unites them again 😉

My landlady recommended that I go to the waterfall when the weather is bad. Then a lot of water comes down...

The waterfall on the border between Sweden and Norway is definitely worth a visit, especially since the other large waterfalls in Sweden are further north.

Elgafossen (or more precisely Elgåfossen or Elgaafossen in Norwegian and Älgafallet or Algafallet in Swedish) was a shared waterfall between Norway and Sweden. In fact, its watercourse on a tributary of the Enningdalsälven called Elja defined parts of the Swedish-Norwegian border.
