A detour from the main Könkään keino Trail loop is worth it to enjoy the spectacle of the Kiutaköngäs Rapids. The Oulankajoki River is a fine companion for any run in this superb part of the Oulanka National Park.

This is a glorious spot to enjoy views of the Oulankajoki River. It features on the Könkään keino Trail, a great 8-kilometre loop that features impressive rapids.

Here, a long suspension bridge leads over the Harrisuvanto River. The water here is usually as smooth as glass. It is best to walk across it one at a time, otherwise it becomes narrow and wobbly.

It is definitely worth making the little detour to the waterfall. The beautifully situated Jyräva waterfall finds its way through the canyon here.

Here you walk along fine forest trails through the forest and directly past the beautiful Lake Hirsilampi.

From the 492-meter-high summit of Valtavaara you have a great view of the flat landscape of the Valtavaara-Pyhävaara Nature Reserve. In cool weather, the nearby day trip hut with a stove and picnic table invites you to warm up.
