Opened in April 2021, this is one of the newest trails in Portugal. The Barca D'Amieira Trail combines a walkway, a suspension bridge, and a fabulous viewpoint in a single route. The trail also offers a walk along a towpath wall and stunning views of the Tagus River.

Sehenswürdigkeit am Trilho da Barca d'Amieira

The Anta do Penedo Gordo stands like a stone echo from ancient times. With its polygonal chamber formed by nine pillars and a corridor flanked by four on each side, this megalithic monument still preserves traces of the ancient mound, visible mainly to the south. Its construction dates back to the Late Neolithic or Chalcolithic period (between 3500 and 2000 BC) when the landscape was filled with mystery, rituals and stories carved into the rock.

This viewpoint is one of those well-kept secrets: it offers an impressive view over the Fratel dam and invites you to take a short break. There is even a small car park for this purpose. But if you have time, don't stop there. Follow the wooden walkways to Barca da Amieira. It is a short route, but full of surprises, where natural beauty meets art in the middle of the landscape.
