The first descriptions of the current Hof te Dieren date back to 1168. Before that, it is known that a farm stood there. However, the main features of the Hof te Dieren originated in 1647, with its acquisition by Stadtholder William II. He commissioned the construction of a hunting lodge, and his successor, King Stadtholder William III, embellished the estate and even then had vineyards planted. The current vineyard thus revives a piece of history. After a major fire in 1795, the castle ruins quickly fell into disrepair. The gardens, which until then had been typical of French landscape architecture, also quickly became overgrown. Only after twenty-five years, in 1822, did the estate come into the possession of Marie Cornélie, Countess of Wassenaer Obdam, Lady of Twickel. She commissioned the construction of a new country house with English-style gardens, designed by architect J.D. Zocher Jr. At the end of World War II, the house burned down again.
