Many pretty places along the water of the Geul invite you to linger, shop and try the local Limburg specialties.

A beautiful historic old town with sandstone houses, situated along the Geul River. Above the town, perched on a rock, are the ruins of Valkenburg Castle. The pedestrian zone in the historic center offers numerous restaurants, cafés, and bars, many with lovely outdoor seating. In winter, charming Christmas markets are held in two spacious caves and throughout the town center. Absolutely worth seeing!

The castle garden is not always open. The castle itself, which is worth seeing, is privately inhabited and therefore not accessible. Unfortunately, the residents also park their cars right in front of the door, which significantly spoils the view. There is a brasserie behind the archway - when I was there I was greeted in the gate by smoke from the staff smoking there, not exactly inviting.

A beautiful street where you can eat and drink deliciously. Something for everyone.

Beautiful historic fortified city, with many old buildings, remains of the city wall, a castle ruin and other city castles. Definitely worth a walk! At Visit Zuid-limburg in the heart of the town, you can purchase fun and informative routes for a few euros and explore the city on your own.

Valkenburg has a castle and an old center. Shops and catering establishments in the center. Many old buildings are made of marl that was extracted from the marl quarries here.

Valkenburg is a major tourist attraction in the area. The mines and caves are of particular interest, containing, among other things, drawings dating back to Roman times. Especially during the Christmas season, the Christmas markets in the caves draw large crowds.

In Valkenburg you can stroll, sit comfortably in a café or visit one of the many attractions. There's something for everyone.
