This is a true Valhalla!

A magnificent castle in the heart of the city. A real eye-catcher. Definitely worth stopping for a few pictures. Terraces are not far away, making it an ideal place for a break.

Construction of the present (moated) castle began around 1325. It served as a replacement for an older castle (known as 't Oude Huys), which stood a few hundred meters west of the present castle and from which the foundations of a stone keep and other objects were found during excavations in 1981.

https://kasteelasten.nl Due to its vulnerability and the fact that it is located on private property, the ruins are only accessible by appointment. On the edge of the Peel, hidden behind lush vegetation, lie the romantic remains of the more than 600 year old castle of Asten. The idyllic ruin evokes a turbulent past of exploitation, wars and witch hunts. The last war was fatal to the castle, in 1944 an attack on the castle took place in which the building became a ruin. The castle may have perished, but the outer bailey still stands in all its glory and has been continuously inhabited for the centuries of its existence. Until the 1970s they were farms and at the moment they offer shelter to around fifty people. Due to its vulnerability and the fact that it is located on private property, the ruins are not freely accessible.

The castle is in scaffolding and fenced in. So not recommended at the moment

The Groot Kasteel dates back to the 14th century. It has been a ruin since 1944, although the remains of the walls have been secured.

The stylish Heeze Castle is beautifully surrounded by canals. This castle has been inhabited by the Van Tuyll van Serooskerken family since 1760, making it one of the last inhabited castles in the Netherlands.
