We love this bike route. From Scharendijke across the island to the south. Then along the Oosterschelde over dykes and directly past the water. Sometimes you share the path with sheep and cows. Then stroll in Zierikzee and across the island back to Scharendijke. A total of about 40 km. When the sun is shining, the water is wonderfully blue and you can hear it rushing next to you all the time.

The Zuidhavenpoort is part of a complex consisting of land and water gates. The heavy brick gatehouse features four corner towers and dates from the 14th century. The open dome-shaped turret dates from 1772. The town hall carillon from 1550–1554 hangs inside. The Zierikzee carillon is the oldest carillon or bell set in the Netherlands. A carillon is a musical instrument playable with a keyboard, consisting of one or more sets of bells. Enjoy the swirling sounds at appropriate times.
