Beautiful design of a bascule bridge

The Singelbrug is a drawbridge over the Nieuwe Rijn, connecting the Zijlsingel with the Zouterwoudse Singel. It takes its name from the connection between the two canals (= Singel). The bridge was built in Haarlem in 1935-36 as the Buitenrustbrug and relocated to Leiden in 1972. It has no control cabin and is only opened by prior arrangement with the municipality. (Wikipedia)

Since March 2025, Café De Hoek has a large and (partly) covered terrace. Now all that is needed is to get the service right, then it will be a nice place to relax and refuel.

Located on the picturesque Dorpsstraat in Koudekerk aan den Rijn, Eetcafé de Hoek offers a warm welcome in a monumental building from 1563. The sunny terrace on the Oude Rijn is an ideal place to enjoy a cup of coffee with homemade pastries or an extensive lunch. Inside, there is a cozy atmosphere, perfect for a dinner with local specialties and a selection of Hertog Jan beers.

Pause here to enjoy the view over the vast lake Het Joppe. Cycling through this water-rich area is beautiful anyway.
