The "new" King's Fir is a silver fir, officially designated as the successor to the original King's Fir in 2006. It is about 80 years younger than its predecessor. The original King's Fir, a symbol of the municipality of Wingst and even part of its coat of arms, was planted in 1777 and fell victim to a storm in 1949. ​The new King's Fir is located about 600 meters south of the site of the original tree. With a height of around 38 meters and a trunk circumference of 3.9 meters, it is an impressive sight.

The Wingst obviously doesn’t skimp on superlatives. Anyone who thinks of Greek mythology when they hear the term "Olympus" is wrong. Of course, this has little to do with the seat of the ancient gods. But real 62 m above sea level are already Olympic dimensions for true "lowland Tyroleans" :-). You just have to be a little indulgent. Be that as it may: the view of Cuxhaven, Hamburg, the North-East Sea Canal, etc. is remarkable. Oh yes: the elevator in the tower is unfortunately still broken. But you can easily climb the 168 steps to enjoy the view. 2 euros p.p. but are currently to shell out for the ascent of the tower, if you cannot show a ticket for the zoo or other savings aids to reduce the entry price.

There is an elevator in the tower. Unfortunately when we visited. About 120 grating steps are not for everyone. However, above there is a great view in all directions. At the zoo entrance the tower visit is included and does not have to be paid extra.

The 23 meter high observation tower, built in 1973, is the oldest destination in the Wingst forest. From the top there is a very nice view over the Wingst to the Elbe, the North Sea and Cuxhaven!
