The neoclassical portico in Braunschweig's Bürgerpark immediately catches the eye. Six Doric columns support a triangular pediment. Designed by Peter Joseph Krahe and erected in 1806, the columned porch once served as the facade of the Augustus Gate. After the former main guardhouse was dismantled, the portico was moved here in 1896. Today, one can enjoy the tranquility of the park from its steps.

The viewing platform in Prinz-Albrecht-Park sits atop the 93-meter-high Nußberg hill. It is the remaining vestige of an observation bunker built in 1943, which was once connected underground to the district command post and the police station. The hill itself consists primarily of oolitic sandstone (Buntsandstein). This material, which was also used as a building material, can be found in many buildings in Braunschweig. The extensive pond landscape in Riddagshausen is the result of the work of the Cistercian monks, who drained the then very swampy area and created fish ponds. Of the original 28 ponds, 11 still exist today, of which the Mittelteich and Kreuzteich (between which the excellent path marked here runs) are among the largest. The ponds are home to a rich variety of flora and fauna.
