The Waldapotheke (Forest Pharmacy) in the Deister hills near Egestorf is a charming, traditional inn whose name derives from a historic shelter dating back to around 1900, which later became a forest inn – hence the somewhat unusual name "Waldapotheke" (Forest Pharmacy). The inn is a popular meeting place for hikers, cyclists, and day-trippers in the Deister hills and impresses with its regional cuisine, cozy atmosphere, and location directly on the hiking trail. The name plays on the word "Apotheke" (pharmacy) and the original rest stop where workers and visitors used to meet for a drink and refreshments – a kind of "prescription" in the forest that gave the inn its unique name.

After the tunnel here at Süeßerbrink was closed, the miner's hut was left standing. This was later converted and expanded into a hut for youth leisure activities. After it burned down in 2016, it was not rebuilt. Here, too, is a well-made information board about the history of this tunnel.

The Calenberger Land is a historical landscape that included Neustadt am Rübenberge, Hanover and Hameln. Today the name is mostly used as a regional name for the much smaller southwest of the Hanover region, where Calenberg Castle is located. It is separated to the east and north by the Leine and Mittelland Canal and bounded to the southwest by the Deister and to the south by the Kleiner Deister, both of which are largely still part of it.
