Herborn Dill Tower The Dill Tower was built in the 13th century. It was renovated in 1905. The tower is now empty and may not be entered. At that time, it served to spot enemies from above and to defend the castle and its inhabitants.

Actually "New Gate" or "Sand Gate", once a flank tower of the eastern city fortifications, with a historic cemetery wall (walled up as a small kennel with loopholes), gate breakthrough in 1562. Part of the city fortifications, which were gradually built after the granting of city rights from 1251. The tower roof and half-timbered wall were built after the fire in 1904. The name is not documented, but it is possible that it was named after the patron saint of cattle, St. Leonhard, as cattle were also driven to the cattle markets through the city gate.
