The historic border between the Kingdom of Prussia and the Duchy of Nassau runs within the city of Braunfels. The communities of Altenkirchen and Philippstein, which originally belonged to the Oberlahn district, were incorporated at the beginning of the 1970s but are historically in the Duchy of Nassau.

Braunfels is about 15 minutes by car from Wetzlar and is a fascinating little idyll, dominated by half-timbered houses, on a mountainous hill, not far from the Lahn. Its sights include the Braunfels Castle, the zoo and the historic market square. For me, Braunfels is one of the top 10 sights in Hesse 👍
