After a fire in 1678, the market square was rebuilt. Today there is the tourist information, gastronomy and small shops with a wide range of different goods.

The gate leads through the ring wall into the castle complex. Here there are more pretty half-timbered houses and a fountain. Braunfels Castle is still inhabited by the princely family. There are regular tours and events at the castle. The castle was built in 1246. In 1300, defense towers and ring walls were added.
