The village church was rebuilt around 1882, using building materials from the old fieldstone structure dating back to the 13th century. The original part of this fieldstone church includes the preserved east gable with its lancet windows and the nine fitted checkerboard stones. The relatively high number of these ornamental stones used is unique in Germany.

Most likely first mentioned in documents around 1180, Briescht, as part of the Beeskow rule, was under the influence of the Margraviate of Lausitz and the Saxon electors until the 16th century. In the early modern period, the Briescht manor belonged to the later royal Kossenblatt estate and was largely agricultural.

There are seven checkerboard stones on the east wall of the church. Two more, harder to find stones are located on the southeast corner by the drain pipe.

The Protestant church was rebuilt in the middle of the village green around 1882/83. The building material came from the old fieldstone structure dating back to the 13th century. Because of the many differently patterned checkerboard stones, a visit is definitely worthwhile.

The Großer Schwielochsee with a total area of 13.3 square kilometers is the largest natural lake in Brandenburg and the starting point for water hikers and leisure captains. Clear water, clean air and rural idyll make the Schwielochsee and its surroundings attractive as a recreational area. Long walks in the forest around the lake or detours to the surrounding villages ensure rest and relaxation. There are several bathing spots, idyllic campsites, holiday apartments, boat rentals, recreational facilities and many opportunities for water sports enthusiasts and anglers right on the lake. The Schwielochsee was formed during the Ice Age. Boulders of various sizes can still be seen in its surroundings today, which bear witness to this way of origin. The shape and depth of the lake also indicate the Ice Age: the Schwielochsee is channel-shaped and, at around 14 meters from the lake floor to the water surface, is one of the deeper waters. The Schwielochsee is surrounded by a reed belt, which is home to many species of birds.
