Finsterwalde station was built during the construction of the Halle-Sorau-Guben Railway and is now a station on the electrified rail line from Leipzig/Halle to Cottbus. Regional Express lines RE 8 Berlin Hbf–Finsterwalde (extra trains Monday to Friday) and RE 10 Leipzig–Frankfurt (Oder), as well as regional train line RB 43 Falkenberg (Elster)–Frankfurt (Oder), stop there. From here, the lines to Crinitz–Luckau (closed in 1968) and Schipkau (closed in 1967) branched off. The latter was operated by the Schipkau-Finsterwalde Railway until 1949.
