The Hilpoltstein power plant of the Bavarian State Power Plants has been in operation at the lock since 1993 and is part of the Danube-Main transfer. The hydroelectric power plant recovers energy from the transfer water pumped over the headwater using a Francis turbine with an output of 3000 kW. On average, 5.4 million kWh per year can be fed into the regional power grid. Further power plants on the northern ramp of the transfer are located in the inflow and outflow of Lake Rothsee, at the Leerstetten lock and the outlet of the Main-Danube Canal into the Schwarzach near Wendelstein.
