Nagelfluh on the Hochgrat: Striking peaks and rocky ridges characterize the mountain range that stretches from the Mittagberg near Immenstadt across the Hochgrat to the Bregenz Forest. The rocks, which have been "baked" into conglomerate from scree, look as if nails had been driven deep into them, leaving only the heads visible, which is why they are also called "Nagelfluh."

The "Schwändle" snack bar at the top station of the Schwandlift above Thalkirchdorf is ideal for a stop. Delicious snacks are offered while you take a break in the rustic hut or sunbathe on the terrace. The hut is right near the MounTeens Detective Trail. Within sight is the Schwandalpe (with the green window shutters), a self-catering hut of the DAV Ulm section with no public catering.

There is a relatively new barefoot path here with seating and a picnic table. Our children didn't let the cool autumn weather stop them. The stream crossing at the end of the route was particularly tempting. Really beautifully designed!
