The French term "casemate" describes massive vaults within fortifications. Casemates were usually hidden inside ramparts and consisted of masonry walls or earthen mounds. They were intended to protect against artillery attacks and, in turn, allowed the installation of heavy guns. Such casemates with guns are also found in the high rampart wall of Hohenneuffen.

The Beurener Fels is a "MUST" if you are traveling in this corner on foot or by MTB. The refuge offers shelter if you are caught in the rain and is in close proximity to the rock. A great hiking path and MTB trail leads from the rock down into the valley to the sand pit and the Beuren open-air museum. The trail with its bends is easy to navigate on an MTB even for advanced beginners with concentration, will and courage.

The round mountain is an elevation above the Maisen valley of Bad Urach, which forms a unit together with the Hohenurach, the Urach waterfall and the slide rocks. The round mountain tends to lead a shadowy existence - this may also be due to the fact that you don't have a view of the valley from the clearing on the mountain, which is a bit of a shame. Advantage: since the mountain is not climbed as much, it is not as crowded as the Hohenurach or the waterfall.
