The cabin is beautifully situated near a bridge over the Sandbach stream. It was built in 1976. The name "Roman Cabin" is meant to indicate that the Romans once traveled through this area. Opposite the cabin is a wayside shrine with the inscription "Peace".

The source of the Sandbach is near the Black Forest High Road between Hundseck and Unterstmatt. The Sandbach is 29.2 km long and flows into the Acher near Iffezheim.
