A St. Laurentius church was mentioned several times as early as the 14th century. Gabriel von Verona, then vicar of the Austrian province of the Order, founded a Franciscan Observant monastery on the site around 1440, according to other sources after 1460, on the basis of a donation from the Habsburgs.
