Droxford is a thriving, beautiful historic village located in the Meon valley. Droxford is first recorded in history when the Manor of Drocenesforda (Droxford) was granted to the Prior and monks of St. Swithun, Winchester, by King Egbert in 826. It has good access to the Meon Valley Trail. Its St Mary's and all Saints church dates back to Norman times. In June 1944 Droxford railway station was used by Winston Churchill as his base during preparations for the Normandy Landings and imminent D-Day invasion. A Roman coffin unearthed in 1880 and now on display outside of the church. Check out the engravings in the top of the coffin as they suggest this coffin was for a wealthy person.

St Peter’s is a Grade I-listed church on the outskirts of Soberton village. The church is Norman in origin but most of what you see today dates to the 13th century. The west tower was added in the 16th century. Outside the south transept, there is a stone sarcophagus which is thought to be Roman.
