Excellent facilities at the visitor centre.

400 years old. One of the oldest trees on the Ashridge Estate

Ashridge Estate is a large area of ancient trees, chalk downland and meadows in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It's been managed by the National Trust since 1926.

A really beautiful pond here within Pitstone Common, with a newly built (in 2010) platform. The pond has shrunk in size over the years, but it's still a lovely place to be, and in the autumn the colours of the leaves on the trees here are totally gorgeous, only adding to the effect of the place.

This Tower was built in memory of Francis Egerton, who was the Third Duke of Bridgewater. Egerton was an expert in inland navigation. He was involved in the construction of the Bridgewater Canal (joining Worsley and Manchester), which is the first modern British canal. He also built the canal joining Liverpool and Manchester. Not only that, but he made 2 million pounds out of these adventures and ventures. Be sure to walk up to the top of the Tower. The views from up there are tremendous.

The lion was carved into the hills overlooking Dunstable Downs close to Whipsnade Zoo in 1931-33. Some say it was to remind pilots not to fly too low when crossing the zoo so they didn't scare the animals. Others believe that it was an elaborate advert. In 2017/18, the lion was refurbished with a donated 800 tonnes of chalk so now it can be appreciated from quite some distance.

The Ashridge Estate is a glorious place for a hike, with around 5,000 acres (2,000 ha) of oak and beech woodlands, beautiful commons and quintessential chalk downlands. It's a treat all year round but special mention has to go to spring's bluebells and the butterflies of summer. There are many miles of footpaths and bridleways to explore, while there's also a visitor centre where you can find out more about the area.

Can get a bit windy but you can hide behind one of the two pillar’s to have to lunch

Great walks from here that can be short or long. You can also walk to the Pitsone windmill which is the oldest Windmill in the British Isles

Brownlow café replaced with mobile serving hatches and van; delicious bacon and sausage baps plus fab flat white. Plenty of new benches to catch any available sunshine.

Ivinghoe Beacon is the official start to the Ridgeway that extends from here to Overton Hill in Wiltshire, some 87 miles in all and is over 5000 years old. Wonderful views from the beacon itself but also along the Ridgeway.

Great cycle route up here and if you look about a bit, some awesome trails off the main routes 👍

Great place for rest stop and fuel up at the cafe if needed

From 2022 National Trust have taken over this café and are redeveloping the kitchen so the menu is limited but good for a coffee and a snack A favourite spot for a tea, coffee, cakes.. Only problem is it can get busy at weekends and holidays. New for 2022 is some inside seating. Extensive Outside seating but is generally sheltered from the wind in a sun trap and so works well even on cold days.

No matter how easy or hard you find the trail, it's all forgotten when you get to this point , Enjoy.

This is probably the best gastro pubs in Ashridge so it's busy a lot of the time. Great for a quick refreshment stop on a local MTB ride.
