Built between 1910 and 1912, this former railway line used to transport labourers and kit up to the Red Lake China Clay Works, as well as returning waste products that were put to use as fertiliser. Today, only the track bed is left, providing a long, winding, and fairly gentle way to get up onto the moor from Bittaford, near Ivybridge. The track is a firm local favourite with mountain bikers and gravel riders alike, and also very popular with hikers and the herds of Belted Galloway cattle that roam Ugborough and Harford Moors. Although gentle in gradient, it's pretty rough in parts, so wider tyres are recommended.

Beautiful gardens all year round and not far from the river Dart.

The Avon Dam was built in 1957 to supply water to the coastal towns of South Devon. You can ride up the access road to the base of the dam but will have to leave your bike or push up to see the reservoir.

The Romanesque Revival style church is constructed of gray limestone and yellow Ham Hill stone. The interior is of white Bath stone and the vault rises 15m above the nave. The main altar is decorated with gold, enamel jewelry and the sacrament chapel (1966) has beautiful stained glass windows.

Lydia Bridge is a stone packhorse bridge dating back to the 17th or 18th century and remains a Grade II listed structure. Standing on it, you’ll find a waterfall immediately north, running over mossy boulders and generally looking quaint and lovely.

Cattle, sheep and Dartmoor ponies can often be seen grazing alongside the reservoir, on the grassy hills that roll up and away. Real dream of a gravel route with amazing views of the moors and the sea to the south. Apart from the big climb up from Bittaford, the actual gravel route is pretty flat. But the road is a dead end.

Very picturesque bridge of the River Avon with great views upstream from the bridge. Need to go downstream and scramble over the rocks for a good view up to the bridge. Great place to kick back and enjoy the view ride or walk or just picnic.

Lovely waterfall just above the bridge. Lots of teenagers jumping in the water when it's warm enough.

A nice gentle climb along a smooth tarmac service road to the reservoir here. Perfect for a quick break before heading onto the moors, or free wheeling back down!

Buckfast Abbey in Buckfastleigh is a Benedictine abbey and one of the few remaining active monasteries in Britain. The monastery was founded in 1018 by Lord Aylward in the Valley of the Dart. Little is known about the early days of the monastery. In 1136 it closed a congregation with the monastery Savigny and then belonged to the Cistercian order: From 1147 to 1539, the monastery was a Cistercian abbey. The church and buildings were destroyed in the course of the dissolution of the English monasteries under the reign of King Henry VIII, and for more than 300 years existed only ruins of the abbey. In 1882 it was then rented by Benedictines banished from France by the St. Augustines Priory in Ramsgate and later purchased for £ 4,700. The first abbot, Boniface Natter, died in 1906 in a shipwreck. His successor Anscar Vonier tackled the long-planned reconstruction of the abbey.
