Dartington Hall is one of Devon's most notable mansions. Not only is it the largest medieval estate in western England, it has never been fortified with walls, towers or ditches, which is very unusual for a medieval mansion.
The oldest tree of the plant is a yew about 2000 years old.
The center of the garden to the west is a meadow with steep grass terraces and the Twelve Apostles, a trellis of 300-year-old yews. The place was probably created in the Middle Ages as a tournament venue and today still so designated.
