Hainault Forest is an ancient forest home to an array of beautiful plant and animal species. There's a canopy of oak and hornbeam and a burst of seasonal bluebells in spring, accompanied by an impressive display of around 158 bird species! The views from within the forest of the surrounding area are fantastic. There's also a boating lake, miniature henge and café to explore.

All trail (mix of football pitch, paths, woodland, grass. Muddy during the wet season, dry and fast during summer). A little undulating in the woods but mostly flat and fast.

Interesting historic building - free admission.

Hainault Forest trails feature a number of sculptures fashioned out of the woodland.

Epping Forest was once a royal hunting ground. Today it's the largest public open space in London. You can run for 12 miles (19.3 km) from Manor Park in East London to Epping in Essex almost all off road in wonderful woodland. There are nine waymarked trails within the woods, all make great runs if you fancy following them, or just head out and try the trails.

Close to Chingford, within easy running distance, is Connaught Water. There's a circular trail around the perimeter of the lake which is abundant with wildlife, especially during the colder months when ducks and geese overwinter on the lake.

Built in 1543, this medieval timber museum was Henry VIII's hunting lodge. It’s named after Queen Elizabeth I. It’s worth a visit, even if you just run past to marvel at its construction.

Really shonky paths for a few hundred yards. Stay on the main path instead.
