Well I have to be honest this is just what is needed after a bit of a hike. Nothing as peaceful as being able to sit down for a break on a proper bench with a glorious view out onto the surrounding woodland.

Parham Park is a beautiful place to visit. It is an Elizabethan house and estate in the civil parish of Parham, west of the village of Cootham, and between Storrington and Pulborough, West Sussex, South East England. The estate was originally owned by the Monastery of Westminster and granted to Robert Palmer by King Henry VIII in 1540. The house has a collection of period furniture, paintings and textiles, and is surrounded by 300 acres of ancient deer park with fallow deer.

As you cross the River Arun using the main road, take a minute to admire the Grade I listed Stopham Bridge below you. It's one of the most iconic river crossings in Sussex and dates back to the 14th century. It features seven stone arches and is built of ironstone.

The South Downs have plenty of defensive relics from the Second World War, hidden in hedges, overgrown in woodlands and just standing, still watching, on field edges. They can be quite atmospheric places and this one has a particularly fantastic view.

Parham Park is an Elizabethan house and estate. This entrance to Parham House and Gardens is part of a public footpath leading to the entrance at Douglas Lodge (Storrington Gate). Unfortunately there is a strict no cycling policy through the grounds.

Stopham Bridge is a Grade I listed building and a Scheduled Monument.
